Leadership Is What You Do When the Plan Breaks

The Army taught me that leadership is not rank, volume, or having all the answers. It is what you do when the plan falls apart.
In the military, plans change constantly. Equipment fails, information is incomplete, and conditions shift without warning. Business works much the same way. A client leaves, cash tightens, a key hire misses the mark, or the market moves before you are ready.
That is when leadership matters most. People do not need false confidence. They need clarity about what happened, what matters now, and what happens next.
As a veteran and entrepreneur, I have learned that being in charge is a title; leadership is a habit. It means staying calm under pressure, owning mistakes quickly, and taking care of the people carrying the mission.
You cannot control every condition. But you can be steady enough that your team keeps moving.
